How to block adult content on Discord.

Written October 2026. Discord changes its menus often.

Discord is a set of rooms. Most are about a game or a group of friends. Some are not, and nothing at the door of a room tells you which. Discord’s line is sexually explicit content, which it allows only in age-restricted channels. Suggestive content is allowed in ordinary ones, and the people in a server decide what gets posted. For a lot of men Discord is where it starts: a server joined for a game, a message from someone in it, a channel that was fine until it was not.

This page does two things. First, what Bramble does about it. Then everything Discord gives an adult: what each setting changes, and what it does not.

What Bramble does about Discord

Bramble is a free adult content blocker for iPhone, and it works on the phone you are holding. Its protections run across every app, not only the browser.

It is free, forever, and no one gets a list of what you looked at — not your witnesses, not your Keyholder, not us. The blocking page has the full account.

The rest of this page is Discord’s own settings. They work without Bramble, and they are worth doing. Bramble works on the pictures. The settings work on who and what reaches you, and that is the part no filter can do, because to Discord a swimsuit photo is not sensitive.

What Discord does not offer an adult.

  • Servers and their moderators decide what is posted. Discord cannot make a server less tempting, only blur what it recognises.
  • The sensitive media filters look at media. They do not read text, voice or links.
  • Blur is tap to reveal, so it is a pause, not a wall.
  • There is no lock. Every setting here can be changed back by you, alone. Family Center is for teens thirteen to seventeen, and we found nothing that lets an adult be the one monitored.

If you are setting this up for a child rather than for yourself, Discord’s Family Center is built for that. This page is written for an adult doing it for himself.

Where to start. Open Discord, tap the You tab at the bottom right, then the gear at the top right. Discord redesigned its mobile app in August 2026, so older guides that send you to Privacy & Safety are out of date: it is now Content & Social.

Set the sensitive media filters to Blur

  1. In Content & Social, find the sensitive content filters. There are two: the Mature Sexual Media Filter and the Graphic Media Filter.
  2. Each has three rows: direct messages from friends, direct messages from others, and messages in server channels. The choices are Show, Blur and Block. Server channels allow only Show or Blur.
  3. Set friends to Blur or Block, others to Block, and servers to Blur.

For an adult account Discord starts with friends on Show, others on Block and servers on Show. Discord describes the Mature Sexual Media Filter as covering sexually explicit or suggestive material, which is closer to your standard than most filters. Blur applies to old media as well as new. Reports differ on whether it covers video.

Do not unlock what Discord has locked

Discord now sorts accounts into Adult, Teen and Unconfirmed. It says an Unconfirmed account gets the same protections as a teen’s, and that unblurring media, or turning the filters off, needs an age confirmation. In recent versions of the app you can see where you stand under Settings, then Account Status.

If yours reads Unconfirmed, the stricter defaults are working for you, and you do not have to unlock anything. If it reads Adult, nothing is stricter until you make it so with the filters above. Discord’s rollout of this changed more than once in 2026, so check the screen on your phone before you rely on this section.

Keep age-restricted servers off

On iPhone, Discord keeps porn-focused servers out of the app. The switch is Allow access to age-restricted servers on iOS, and it is off by default. Discord says it can only be changed on desktop or the web, not in the iPhone app, so make sure it is still off.

That is a speed bump, not a wall. A browser on your phone can load Discord’s website, and the website is where that switch lives.

Close the door on direct messages

  1. In Content & Social, under Server Settings, turn off Allow direct messages from server members. Discord offers to apply it to the servers you are already in. Say yes.
  2. Leave Message Requests on, and leave the spam filter on. Requests from people you do not know go to a separate inbox, with images hidden in the preview.
  3. In the friend-request settings, turn off Everyone. The choices are Everyone, Friends of Friends and Server Members, and you can narrow them further.

These do not stop friends, group messages or posts in a channel. The exact row names differ between versions, so if one is missing, look for the nearest match.

Leave the room, not only mute it

Muting a server hides its notifications. It does not hide what is in it. Leaving removes it.

  1. Tap the server’s name, then Leave Server.
  2. For a person, open their profile and choose Block. It removes them as a friend, stops their messages and hides what they post in servers you share. Ignore hides them without a block.

Go through your servers once, honestly. You know which ones you open for the wrong reason, including the ones that post nothing Discord would remove.

The one that holds

Discord has no setting that is hard for you to remove. The only lock is the Unconfirmed state, and only you can lift it, by confirming your age. So the lock has to live outside Discord. A limit set in your iPhone’s own Screen Time belongs to the phone, and it can be put behind a passcode you do not know.

  1. Open the iPhone’s Settings, then Screen Time. If it is off, turn it on.
  2. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
  3. Find Discord in the list and tick it. The list has a search box at the top. Then, at the bottom of the list under Websites, tap Add Website and add discord.com. Without that, a limit on the app does not cover it in Safari.
  4. Tap Next, set the time, and turn on Block at End of Limit.
  5. Back on the Screen Time page, tap Lock Screen Time Settings and set a passcode that someone you trust chooses and keeps. Without it, you can extend your own limit with one tap.

That last step is what Bramble’s Keyholder mode is for. The keyholder walk-through takes the person you ask through setting it on your phone, one screen at a time.

If it is still there afterward

Settings change what the screen offers. They do not change what you are reaching for. When a man has cleaned up his settings and still goes looking, it is usually because something else is being eased, and porn is only the fastest thing he found for it. That is not a verdict on you.

The ten questions are one honest place to look at it. Why can’t I stop watching porn is the longer version.
