You typed free because you have been burned by free before. You downloaded the app, turned it on, and three screens later it wanted a card number. What free usually means here
Before the list, the three things a man is usually right to suspect when a blocker calls itself free.
- Free means a trial. Most of the well-known apps are a subscription with a free week in front of it. The clock is the product. That is not dishonest, but it is not free.
- Free means the useful part is paid. A free tier often keeps the parts that make a blocker hold — uninstall protection, the courses, the coaching — behind the paid plan. What is left is real, just thinner.
- Free means you are the product. Some free software pays for itself with advertising or with what it learns about you. For a tool that sees what you do online, that is the question worth asking first.

Best for: an iPhone, when you want protection that holds and nobody watching your screen. The catch: there is no Android app and no native Windows app. If the machine you most need covered runs either, Bramble is the wrong tool for it. The Chrome extension covers the browser, which is not the whole machine.
Apple Screen Time
Built inAlready on your phone. Basic content restrictions and app limits, at no cost and with nothing new to trust. If you do nothing else today, this is the floor.
Best for: a first layer, tonight. The catch: it is basic, and it is easy to turn off. Anyone who can unlock the phone and knows the Screen Time passcode can switch it off — and if you set the passcode yourself, that is you. It holds far better when someone else sets it. BlockerX’s prices are discounted off a higher list price and sales are frequent. App-store billing often differs from the provider’s own site.
Most of the better-known blockers and accountability apps have no free version at all and run from about $10 to $18 a month. Why Bramble is free

The honest answer is that I want a man to have this for the rest of his life, and a subscription does not fit that. A monthly charge turns protection into something you keep deciding whether to renew — and the evening a man is most tempted to cancel it is rarely a good evening.
