How to block porn at night on an iPhone.
The iPhone settings below were checked on iOS 26.5, October 2026.
For a lot of men it is not the afternoon. It is late, in bed, tired, with the phone in his hand and the day not quite over. Or it is the first hour home, or two in the morning when sleep will not come. A filter can stop a site loading. It does not put the phone down.
An iPhone can close itself at an hour you choose. The setting is called Downtime, it is free, and it is already on your phone. With a passcode someone else holds, the night is decided in the afternoon, while you are calm, and not at one in the morning by the man holding the phone.
This page says what Bramble does at night, then walks through Downtime: the hours, what stays open, and the two steps that make it hold.
What Bramble does at night
Bramble is a free porn blocker for iPhone. Adult sites do not load on the phone at any hour, in Safari or in any other app. For the night it has one thing more, a night curfew.
- You choose the hours. Bramble offers it when you set the app up, and afterward it is in Bramble’s Settings, under Shield, as Night curfew. It runs from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. unless you pick other hours.
- The internet goes quiet. While it runs, browsing, search, video, social apps and chat apps you have not kept open stop connecting. Calls, texts, music, podcasts, Maps and Bramble stay open. You can choose to close everyday sites too.
- It can close the apps themselves, the ones you choose, not only their connection.
- Turning it off costs a night rather than rescuing you from one. The change waits until tonight’s window has ended. If you have a Keyholder, they hear when the wait starts, and can open it early.
It is free, forever, and no one in your life gets a list of what you looked at — not your witnesses, not your Keyholder. The blocking page has the full account.
Get Bramble free on the App Store
The curfew works on the connection, and on the apps you name. What is already on the phone it leaves alone: apps with downloads already on the phone still open. Downtime is the iPhone’s own way to close nearly everything at once, except the few apps you keep. The rest of this page sets it up. It works with Bramble or without it.
Choose the hours
Do this in the day, not at the hour you are trying to close. If someone already holds your Screen Time passcode, Downtime asks for it, so do it with them.
- Open the iPhone’s Settings, then Screen Time. If you see App & Website Activity, tap it, then tap Turn on App & Website Activity.
- Tap Downtime, and turn on Scheduled.
- Leave Every Day ticked, or tap Customize Days to give each day its own hours.
- Tap Time. Set From and To, then tap the checkmark at the top right. It starts at 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Choose the hours from your own nights, not from the default. If the hard hour comes after everyone else is asleep, start before it, not at it. Customize Days lets a weekend night start earlier than a weeknight. iOS puts up a reminder five minutes before Downtime begins.
Choose what stays open
During Downtime, in Apple’s words, “only apps that you choose to allow and phone calls will be available.” Everything else closes, and opening it shows a Time Limit screen. The apps you keep are a list called Always Allowed.
- Back on the Screen Time screen, tap Always Allowed.
- Phone is always on the list. Messages and Maps are on it to start with. Tap the red minus to take an app off, or the green plus beside one under Choose Apps to add it.
- Add Bramble, so its hard-moment button is still there at two in the morning.
Everything on this list stays open all night, so keep it short. Leave every browser off it, and anything with a feed. Messages is usually worth keeping: it is how the people closest to you reach you, and how you reach them. Pictures people send still arrive there, and Sensitive Content Warning blurs nude images in Messages before you see them.
What Downtime does not do
- It is about this iPhone. In Apple’s words, “Downtime will apply to this device.” An iPad, a Mac or a television in the room is not covered.
- What you keep stays open. Every app on the Always Allowed list works all night, and so does whatever reaches you inside it.
- It does not filter. In the day it does nothing. Stopping the sites themselves is Bramble’s job, or the iPhone’s own adult-website limit.
- On its own, it is a reminder. Without a passcode, the night screen gives way with one tap. That is the last section.
The one that holds
Everything so far can be undone by the man holding the phone, at the hour it matters. Without the next two steps, the screen that appears at night has an Ignore Limit button, and behind it One More Minute, Remind Me in 15 Minutes and Ignore Limit For Today, with no passcode asked.
- On the Screen Time screen, tap Lock Screen Time Settings and set a passcode that someone you trust chooses and keeps. iOS then asks for an Apple Account to reset it. They should enter their own, tap OK, and sign in if asked, so they can reset the passcode if they forget it. Never yours, because that hands the key back to you, and never tap Forgot password? If your email is already filled in, they delete it first. Rather not use theirs? They tap Cancel, then Skip, and then a forgotten passcode means erasing the phone.
- Tap Downtime again. It now asks for the passcode, so the person holding it enters it. Turn on Block at Downtime. It starts off, and it only appears once the passcode exists.
With both done, the night screen offers OK and Ask For More Time. Asking offers One More Minute the first time, and after that only Enter Screen Time Passcode. Opening Downtime asks for the passcode, and so does adding an app to Always Allowed or turning Screen Time’s activity off. You can look at the list. You cannot change it alone.
That is what Bramble’s Keyholder mode is for. If someone already holds your passcode that way, the first step is done, and they only need to enter it for the second. If not, the keyholder walk-through takes the person you ask through setting it on your phone, one screen at a time.
One more thing, and it costs nothing: charge the phone in another room. Downtime decides what the phone will do at night. Where it sleeps decides whether it is in your hand.
If it is still there afterward
Settings change what the phone offers at midnight. They do not change why midnight is the hour. Late, tired and alone with the day is when whatever a man has been carrying is loudest, and porn is only the fastest thing he found for it. That is not a verdict on you.
The ten questions are one honest place to look at it. Why can’t I stop watching porn is the longer version.
